Snow at last!
It’s been such a mild winter, it was shocking to finally have some snow this past week. If it’s been awhile since you’ve been around a 5-yr-old, let me remind you that they *love* snow.

Halloween
What a great day! I think we’re headed into the Perfect Age for Halloween–here’s hoping it lasts many years.
First, Halloween Eve (is that technically All Hallow’s Eve Eve?), and the finished jack-o-lantern:
Next, our cute house all decked out:

Fancy
The Dickinsons attended a wedding a few weekends ago. . . October 8 in Wisconsin, 82*, and gorgeous. Here’s a few shots of Henry and I (David was busy serving as an usher).
We’re actually on a chair lift at a ski run in these pics–the wedding was on top of a ski hill, and we had to take the chair lift to get up there. Super fun–Henry and I rode it around a few times.

the year’s last, loveliest smile
It was a picture-perfect fall day in Wisconsin: clear blue sky, bright sun, cool temps. We took a run up to Ski-Hi Orchard near Baraboo for apples (and pie, and cider donuts, and apple turnovers, and caramel apples), and then went for a hike along the bluffs in Devils Lake.
Pretty much everyone in the state was out biking, hiking, motorcyling, driving, etc., . . .what a day. No wonder it’s always been my favorite season. And the Badgers and Irish both win, a nice bonus for the weekend.

I-Love-You-And-I-Want-to-Marry-You-on-the-Fourth-of-July
Henry and I have worked out a code of hand-squeezes, basically one squeeze per syllable. Three squeezes = “I Love You”
He recently introduced the 16-squeeze. When I asked, he told me it meant “I love you and I want to marry you on the Fourth of July.”
Sounds good to me, my beautiful boy.

Camping!
Henry had a fun overnight camping trip with Dada and Grandma Loreli last weekend. Mama had a get-out-of-jail-free card.

Last day at PSA
Today was Henry’s last day at Preschool of the Arts, a Reggio-based preschool where he’s been enrolled since September 2008.
Here’s a photo of Henry his first week of school at PSA:
Here he is with some PSA friends about 10 days ago:
This morning, after I dropped him off for the last time, I walked through the halls briefly, peeking into the other classrooms that he was in as a 2-yr old and 3-yr old. The tiny chairs, the stacks of dipes, all the signs of the truly little toddler that he’s left way far behind. I walked out and stopped by the main office to say thanks to the school secretary, and promptly burst into tears, surprising myself—-but not her. She handed me a tissue and gave me a hug, and told me how much they’ll miss Henry.
And I walked out the door, and headed off to work, and played this song several times throughout the day.
